How do you get an indoor gardenia to bloom?

Gardenias bloom according to light and heat requirements. When the days are longer and warmer (spring-early summer) with 8 + hours of sunlight, buds are triggered hormonally to bloom. After gardenias bloom and drop the flowers, new flower buds grow for blooming the following spring. (That's why you only prune them immediately after blooming, otherwise you're cutting off the following season's flowers.)

Gardenias love acid soil. Epsom salts is an inexpensive alternative to acid fertilizers.

How do you get an indoor gardenia to bloom?
put it out in the sun during the day. feed it with a nitrogen heavy fertilizer rotated with a bloom booster. insects love young gardenia growth so you need to keep it healthy as possible to keep the bugs away. sprays of dishwater on the new growth help.
Reply:i agree with the fellow above my answear hear but with that you may want to consider the facts about the season the spacific plant flowers and what the typical conditions in the atmosphear/hemisphear is naturaly for it to bloom, duplicate the photo piriod. i grow venus fly traps indoors and they havent seen much sunlight, just a halogen bulb. i use an energy saver phillips coiled bulb but the bigger the plant the bigger the bulb but more than that the more the "lumens" wich is marked on most light bulb containers as you can read it before you purchase it. secondly, consider getting a 24 hour indoor/outdoor timer that turns on and off the lighting over top the plant, you may want to have one like i got that you can set for random half hour increments in that 24 hour piriod so that a plant that needs partly sunny can have just that. and finaly, most plants need a longer photo piriod,(or simply more time in light.) consider that moste flowers bloom in summer or pre-summer times of the year, thusly needing a longer time in light in order to trick the plant into biologicly thinking its time to flower even if it isent. it is highly recomended that you dont over fertilize but put just a little bit more fertilization in the planter outward from roots so it has what it needs to fully develop beutifull flowers, and it is aslo verry strongly recomended to imitate the seasons or lighting piriods of time as close as you can becuse if you continualy trick a plant into thinking its time to flower it will enevitably die from the exahstion of doing so.
Reply:YOU FERTILIZE IT. DONT GET ANY ON THE LEAVES IT WILL BURN THEM. DO NOT SIT PLANT IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT IMMEDIATELY AFTER DOING THIS. BESURE THE PLANT IS WATERED WELL NOT SATURATED BEFORE APPLICATION. LIQUID FERTILIZERS ARE BEST BUT NOT THE ONES THAT HAVE ANY COLOR TO THEM BUY POWDER YOU CAN MIX WITH WATER OR A CLEAR PREMIXED. THE FISH STICK ONES TAKE A LONG TIME TO ABSORB IN THE STICK FORM, IF YOU WANT TO USE THESE CRUSH THEM UP AND SPRINKLE ON TOP. GOOD LUCK
