First you need to check if you have it planted correctly, if you have it planted to deep you could be suffocating the plant. Second, check and make sure there are no bugs that could be turning it brown (whiteflies and mealybugs I believe are most common with this plant). Then you need to make sure you are watering it correctly. You should check it everyday, since it is in a pot you are almost certain you have to water it everyday. Make sure you are not overwatering it though, if so you are drowning your plant and its roots will rot. Don't let your plant just sit in water, water them and let them soak up all the water they need and then take the pot out of any water it is sitting in. If you are over watering you need to let your plant completly dry out, that could save it.

Once you figure out what is wrong you need to clean off all of the dead leaves, your plant will come back quicker without the dead leaves on it.
Reply:Believe it or not, gardenias are not the easiest to keep alive. I was able to keep one going for almost two years and then it too bit the dust. :o)

South Florida is about the best place for growing gardenias outside.
