Remember that gardenias are relatively tropical which means they have a narrow comfort band (no extremes)... Here's what I found "Proper temperatures are necessary for a gardenia to bloom. This is the most critical aspect. Flower buds will fail to form if day temperatures are higher than 70degrees or night temperatures are over 65 degrees or less than 60 degrees. The ideal temperature ranges would be 65 to 70 degrees during the day and 60 to 62 degrees at night." AND

"Another problem encountered is "bud drop." Flower buds abort and drop off just before they open. Common causes include low humidity, overwatering, underwatering, insufficient light and high temperatures (night temperatures between 50 and 55 ° F are necessary for the formation of flower buds)."
Reply:It's my understanding that gardenias are rather tropical. Therefore, they are suppose to die in Oklahoma.

Consider keeping them in a pot and bringing them indoors in the winter.
Reply:yeah we have this crappy red soil in oklahoma. plus it gets really hot in the summer and really cold in the winter
Reply:I have that problem in Ohio. It could be animals or it could just be the soil. They should be planted in full sun, no sun Etc. (however specified on pot of label). May I suggest Miracle Grow. It really helped me!
