Can I leave a potted gardenia outdoors for winter in zone 5?

NO, absolutely not, never, ever. Gardenis are only outdoors hardy to zone 9, which means florida or California or something like that.

If frost gets to it, if the outdoor temperature gets to freezing, if the soil freezes your plant is dead.

Bring it inside and put it in the sunniest location you have. add extra light by leaving a lap on it during the day.

Put pebbles or stones under the pot in the dish and keep water on it at all times to keep the humidity up or run a humidifier.

Keep the soil moist but not wet.

Keep it warm not near a drafty door or heat register.

Good luck

I wouldn't recommend it but i have a hard time keeping the little buggers alive indoors
Reply:No the soil in the pot will freeze solid and kill the plant.
Reply:absolutely a big NO...I live in zone 9 and wouldn't leave one out during the few frosts that we get...
Reply:SURE .

JUST PUT SOMETHING OVER IT
Reply:might get too cold. I think for zone 7 but not for 5
