Wash your hair a bit with the gel. Then before you leave your house wash your hands with it as well and rub the remainder wetness (not too wet) on your clothes.
I know this is tricky. Thats why i use shower gels before bed to smell good otherwise it dont last when going out =/
How to smell like Gardenia with the body wash and no lotion and the perfume?
You could always retouch the smell by washing your hands throughout the day with the body wash.
