Recently acquired a small gardenia tree. Lots of flowers! Now many new shoots on top. How and when to prune?

MASTER GARDENER TO THE RESCUE

Just finished pruning two of mine yesterday. you will be surprised at how seldom you will need to prune it.

Trim lightly by hand to shape after each bloom cycle if / when needed. this was only my second trimming this summer.

Prune during the Fall time, just before leaves start coming alive
Reply:Let them go a week then start to prune, if an entire branch is blooming let them finish then prune that section
