Can you suggest a tough plant for my entry way?

The garden bed leading to my front door is the least attractive and least promising in the yard.

It doesn't get much sun because it's shaded by the carport, and it's actually a bit of a wind tunnel.

I live in a climate where it's cold in winter (frost, snow etc) and hot and dry in summer. The soil is not the best either.

There's a star jasmine creeper at the end where it gets the most sun, and a gardenia bush that seems to survived everything, but from what I can see, all other plants that have been planted there over the years have died.

Can you suggest a very tough plant that doesn't need full sun and is wind-tolerant?

Some sort of pine, or nandina?
Reply:some gorse is always tough and bright yellow in the summer or maybe some heather bushes?
Reply:or cactus? they are tough, and they dont mind if you forget to water them, they still love you anyways!
Reply:Heuchera (Coral Flower) is pretty indestructible and will give you all year round interest. The plants come in various attractive leaf colours.

This site can help you decide what kind of tree will work under different conditions.
Reply:TRY A YUCCA. THEY ARE COLD TOLORANT TO -30 AND A VERY WIND TOLORENT
